
Antonello
Palombi began his studies with Kate Gamberucci and M° Thiolas.
In
1990 he made his debut as Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
In
the following years he sang in several operas in many Italian as well as
international theatres. Ranging
from Mozart and Rossini to Verdi and Puccini he was Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto,
Alfredo in Traviata, Fenton in Falstaff, Don Ramiro in Cenerentola,
Ferrando in Così Fan Tutte, Nemorino in Elisir d’Amore and also
Don Josè in Carmen, Macduff in Macbeth and Edmondo in Manon
Lescaut.
In
the last few years, he consolidated his career in the “lirico”, “lirico
spinto” repertory. In 1997 he was Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut at
Glyndebourne Opera Festival conducted by Sir John Elliott Gardiner as well as
Enea in Les Troyens of Berlioz in a production of Granteatro La Fenice in
Venice.
In
1998 he sang Verdi’s Requiem in Germany and in London (St. Paul’s
Cathedral) again under the baton of Sir Gardiner. He made his debut as
Cavaradossi in Tosca in Padua and as Radames in Aida at Granteatro
La Fenice in Venice then he was Don Josè again, conducted by Gustav Kuhn at the
New National Thetare in Tokyo.
He
began 1999 singing Verdi’s Arie da Camera in Parma, Busseto and Mantua
then, still from Verdi, Inno delle Nazioni at the celebrations of the
Italian Republic Day on June 2nd in Rome conducted by Roberto Abbado.
He was in Glyndebourne for the revival of the 1997 production of Manon
Lescaut and then made his debut as Rodolfo in Bohème at Teatro
Giocosa in Savona. He sang at Teatro Regio in Turin in Madama Butterfly.
During
year 2000 he was Radames in Ravenna with the London Philharmonic Orchestra
conducted by Paolo Olmi and Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut under the baton
of Yuri Ahronovitch in a production of Granteatro La Fenice in Venice and
Copenhagen. In the same year he made his debut as Loris Ipanoff in Giordano’s Fedora
at Teatro Regio in Turin and as Avito in Montemezzi’s L’Amore dei tre Re
at the Opernhaus in Zurich.
He’s
back in Zurich in 2001 debuting Ismaele in Nabucco and the title role in Don
Carlo, followed by the debuts of Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra
at Teatro Bellini in Catania, Cassio in Otello in Zurich with Josè Cura,
Daniela Dessì and Ruggero Raimondi and Jacopo in I Due Foscari at Teatro
dell’Opera in Rome.
2002
is another year of debuts. Pollione
in Norma and Faust in Boito’s Mefistofele in Turin, Paco in La
Vida Breve and Pedro in La Serrana at Teatro Sao Carlos in Lisbon. In
the meantime he sang at Frankfurt Oper in Manon Lescaut and Tosca,
went back to Zurich for some more performances of Otello (Cassio) and
flew to Budapest to sing in Aida
as well as during a Gala Concert at the Allami Operahàz. He ended the year as
Pinkerton at Deutsche Oper in
Berlin and singing in Macbeth at Teatro Regio in Turin.
In
2003 he was in Zurich for Nabucco and Don Carlo and in Budapest
for Aida. He sang in two Verismo Gala Concerts in Leipzig and then
returned to Frankfurt as Des Grieux and Cavaradossi. Des Grieux is the role that
he sang at Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. He participated at the New Year’s
Eve Gala in Frankfurt where he began 2004 as Cavaradossi in Tosca.
2004 brought him to Cagliari for his debut as Calaf in Turandot at Teatro Lirico and to Seattle where he debuted with great success the role of Dick Johnson in La Fanciulla del West. In summer he was Ismaele in Nabucco in Rome at the Terme di Caracalla and in fall he sang as Radames at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin.It is December when he is in Münich at the Bayerische Staatsoper to sing Des Grieux in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut.After this he finished 2004 at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin with a very successful performance of Manon Lescaut.
He is in Turin, in 2005, as Avito in Montemezzi's L'Amore dei Tre Re then he made his debut as Don Alvaro in Verdi's La Forza del Destino in Frankfurt with great success.
It is at the Hamer Hall in Melbourne that he debuts Otello, in the homonymous opera of Verdi, acclaimed by the audience and the press. Another big success is the production of Manon Lescaut at the Suomen Kansallisooppera in Helsinki where the audience was in jubilation.
The series of successes continued with his debut as Canio in Pagliacci at the Dallas Music Hall with standing ovation at each performance at the moment of his exit for the bow. His next destination was West Palm Beach where he sang the role of Radames in Aida.
Right after he flew to Turin beginning 2006 with a new production of Manon Lescaut with actor Jean Reno at his debut as a director. Detroit saw him singing in a new production of Aida with great success of public but his Cavaradossi in Cincinnati's new production of Tosca was an authentic triumph every performance ending with the audience's standing ovation at his final exit on stage. His next engagement was in Berlin at the Deutsche Oper with his debut in the title role of Andrea Chenier.
Between the end of the year and the beginning of 2007 he made his debut at Teatro La Scala in Milan with the role of Radames in Aida. A performance to become memorable for him and for Opera throughout the world. In fact, when during the performance on December 10th, after the famous aria Celeste Aida, the tenor who was singing left the stage due to the protests and the boos from the audience, the stage director asked him to jump on stage in ordinary clothes, giving the possibility to continue the performance and bringing it to the end and with great appreciation from the audience.
2007 continues with his debut on stage as Otello at the Grimaldi Forum in Montecarlo where he was highly appreciated by the audiance as well as the press. Back in Berlin as Don Alvaro in La Forza del Destino and at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt for two concert performances of Andrea Chenier he had wonderful critics and a great success. In the USA he sang the role of Cavaradossi in Tosca at Baltimore Opera. In Europe again, he was first Faust in Boito's Mefistofele at Opèra Royal de Wallonie in Liège, then Calaf in Turandot at Terme di Caracalla in Rome. He returned to Baltimore, this time for singing Don Alvaro in La Forza del Destino and finished 2007 at La Fenice in Venice as Calaf in Puccini's Turandot.
After four years, he returned to Seattle in January 2008 to be Canio in an outstanding production of Leoncavallo's Pagliacci. Later he debuted the role of Luigi in Puccini's Tabarro at La Scala in Milan. During the celebrations for the 150th Anniversary of Puccini`s birth, he debuted the role of Robeto in Le Villi and took part of the Opening Concert of the new theatre in Torre del Lago Puccini as well as in Rome at Accademia Santa Cecilia.In June he sang as Calaf in Puccini`s Turandot at Teatro San Carlo in Naples and headed back to Seattle and Baltimore to be Radames in Verdi`s Aida.
